Brief history:
Anshinkai-do Karate was developed by Hanshi Jim Sereff over 20 years ago.  The system is
based upon several Okinawan and Japanese martial arts.  The primary influence is from
Kobayashi Shorin-ryu Karate, founded by Chibana Chosin.  Other influences include: Shotokan
Karate, Jujitsu, Kokondo, Shimpu kai Kempo, Kung-fu, and Okinawan Goju-ryu.

After retiring, Hanshi Sereff turned the school of Anshinkai-do over to Shihan Jon Moore and
Shihan Janine Moore.  They each hold a
5th degree black belt in Anshinkai-do and a 2nd degree
black belt in Kosho Ryu Kempo.  They own and operate our honbu
(headquarters) school, Moore
Martial Arts, located in Windsor, CO.

In the summer of 2000, we began studying under Hanshi Bruce Juchnik from Sacramento,
California.  H
anshi is the 22nd inheritor of the system of Kosho Ryu and founder of Sei Kosho
Shorei Kai.  Among others, he was taught by Professor James Mitose who was the 21st
descendant of the founder of Kosho Ryu.

Teachers:
Erik Plate - head instructor for the Johnstown, Colorado dojo.  Sensei Erik has over18 years of
martial arts experience and holds a 4th degree black belt in Anshinkai-do Karate and a 2nd degree
black belt in Kosho Ryu Kempo.

Jennifer Campbell,  assistant instructor, runs the 5-7 year old beginner class.  Jennifer holds a
brown belt in Anshinkai-do.  She has a passion for the arts and for teaching kids.

Several other teachers in Anshinkai-do also periodically assist with classes.

Curriculum:
Our curriculum is reality based with its roots in effective street combat self defense.  Although we are
not a competitive style, we will support students that have a desire to participate in tournaments.
Students will learn numerous kata (forms), self defense techniques, weaponry and cultural arts
such as Shodo (Japanese calligraphy) and Shiatsu (pressure point massage).  Our focus in on the
study of natural laws, concepts and principles as they relate to martial application.

Students are expected to practice outside of class to strengthen their skills.  Belt testing will include
previously covered materials, so students are expected to retain teachings from lower ranks as
they progress.

Anshinkai-do belt progression is as follows: White-Orange-Yellow-Purple-Blue-Green(1/2)-Brown
(1/2/3)-Black.  The children’s curriculum includes all of these belts as well as a stripe level between
the colored belts up to green belt.   In order to progress through the ranks, it is crucial that each
student attends as many classes as possible.  A typical adult progression takes a minimum of 3 to
4 months between belts if they train four hours a week.  Children will typically take longer due to
shorter class times.
