We are proud members of the Sei Kosho Shorei Kai International (SKSKI). Our primary study of martial arts is in Kosho Ryu Kempo. Kosho is not as much of a martial style as it is a complete study. A study of Nature, natural laws and principles as they pertain to our existence. Of course, martial studies focus on the principles and laws as they relate to conflict. We emphasize peaceful resolution to conflict using awareness, verbal de-escalation and esaping arts prior to physical altercation.
In the summer of 2000, we began studying under Hanshi Bruce Juchnik from Sacramento, California. Hanshi is the 22nd inheritor of the system of Kosho Ryu and founder of Sei Kosho Shorei Kai. Among others, he was taught by Professor James Mitose who was the 21st descendant of the founder of Kosho Ryu.
Erik Plate: Head instructor for the Johnstown, Colorado dojo. Sensei Erik has over 21 years of martial arts experience and holds a 4th degree black belt in Anshinkai-do Karate and a 4th degree black belt in Kosho Ryu Kempo.
Jennifer Campbell: Primary instructor for the Tiny Tigers. Jennifer holds a first degree black belt in Anshinkai-do Karate nd Kosho Ryu Kempo. She is an open minded practitioner who has a passion for the arts and for teaching kids.
Our curriculum is reality based with its roots in effective street combat self defense. Although we are not a competitive style, we will support students that have a desire to participate in tournaments. Students will learn numerous kata (forms), self defense techniques, weaponry and cultural arts such as Shodo (Japanese calligraphy) and Shiatsu (pressure point massage). Our focus in on the study of natural laws, concepts and principles as they relate to martial application.
Students are expected to practice outside of class to strengthen their skills. Belt testing will include previously covered materials, so students are expected to retain teachings from lower ranks as they progress.
